ABOUT

Welcome to Balanced Healthcare

Cora discovered her love for medicine while studying exercise science and psychology at Colorado College. She went on to earn her postgraduate degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Pacific University in 2007 then passed the national exam to become a board-certified Physician Assistant.

She spent her first five years treating a range of acute conditions in urgent care and emergency medicine in an underserved area of Iowa. Since 2011, Cora shifted her concentration to family medicine where she focuses on preventive health and managing chronic illness while continuing to utilize her skills and knowledge in acute care.

A commitment to patient-centered care

After years of seeing 25-30 patients in primary care each day and often 50 patients in a 10-hour urgent care shift, she realized traditional medicine had forgotten its core commitment to patient-centered care. The desire to prioritize each patient and a passion for helping people provided the motivation to create Balanced Healthcare - a Direct Primary Care (DPC) medical practice devoted to fostering authentic relationships grounded in more one-on-one time with patients, convenience, and acccessibility.

This dedication allows the Balanced Healthcare team to dig deeper into each patients questions, concerns, illness and injury and create an opportunity to develop each patient's individualized care plan.

Common problems with the current system:

Ignoring your needs

Doctors' offices that make you wait then are too busy to listen and too quick to refer you to another office or prescribe a medication as the solution.

Unavailable

Primary care providers who can’t get you in when you’re sick or injured and who have 3+ month wait times for your annual physical or to start as a new patient.

Quick-fix mentality

Too many doctors’ offices make you feel rushed and often prescribe medications or refer you to a specialist as quick and easy solutions that don’t actually find the cause, fix the problems, or help you feel better.

Restrictive plans

Insurance companies control your healthcare decision by limiting which tests, procedures, specialists, and medications they will pay for.

How Direct Primary Care can be your solution:

Low-cost monthly membership paid directly to your provider's office

  • No hidden costs or co-pays
  • No bills that arrive 6 weeks after you've been treated

No restrictions, limitations, or obstacles from the insurance companies

Contact your provider directly at any time - you'll have their cell phone number

Your Primary Care Provider can provide comprehensive medical care and support for 85-90% of your healthcare needs

  • Avoid urgent care and ER visits
  • Save your insurance plan for major health issues
  • Lower out-of-pocket expenses

Direct Primary Care offices see 75-80% fewer patients than traditional practices

  • No waiting room approach
  • Never feel rushed or unheard

Seeing fewer patients means your provider is able to:

  • Spend more time with you
  • Listen to you
  • Direct care to your needs
  • Treat you like more than a chart number

Cora Mattie

Founder, Physician Assistant (PA-C)

Cora, a nationally-certified Physician Assistant, founded Balanced Healthcare after decades in traditional insurance-based healthcare where she was consistently asked to see more patients per hour at the cost of providing quality patient care. Cora decided medicine should get back to how it used to be when there were “one doc towns” and medical providers knew their patients and families on a personal level. Balanced Healthcare has been a dream come true and she’s never been more excited about what she and her team have to offer each member of the practice!

Julie Cookish

Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C)

Having committed a decade to the Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and rapid response, Julie brings an expanse of skills to her current role in direct primary care. Her passion in medicine lies in fostering strong, personalized connections with patients, providing unhurried visits, continued learning, and delivering holistic and lifestyle-focused comprehensive primary care. Beyond the medical realm, Julie enjoys spending time with friends, family, and her husband, participating in triathlons, biking, CrossFit, snowboarding, and reading.
